As the 2019 high school regular season draws to a close, the Georgia Lacrosse Officials Association (GLOA) is pleased again to offer summer lacrosse camp scholarships in memory of Ron Mallonee. This summer will mark the fourteenth year we are offering the scholarships in Ron’s memory.
A veteran lacrosse official in Georgia, Ron was a Charter Member of the association who passed away in 2004 after a brief battle with cancer. Those of you who had the opportunity to meet and work with Ron will undoubtedly remember his passion for the game. His presence was welcomed on the field by coaches, officials, and players due to his outgoing nature, his enthusiasm, and his friendly demeanor. The official GLOA coin that is flipped before each game bears his image as a continuing reminder to all of us of his legacy.
Ron Mallonee Scholarship
In his memory, GLOA established the Ron Mallonee Scholarship Fund which is used annually to assist deserving high school boys who have a passion for the sport of lacrosse and a desire to improve to attend a summer lacrosse camp. Since the Fund’s inception in 2005, GLOA has been able to provide scholarships to over 100 deserving players from the state of Georgia. GLOA will offer camp scholarships for the 2019 Georgia Tech Boys Lacrosse Camp. This camp will take place June 4-7. More information about the Georgia Tech Camp is available online:
The Ron Mallonee Scholarship recipients will be honored at the 2019 GHSA State Championships. The player and his parents will be guests of GLOA at Kennesaw State University Fifth Third Bank Stadium for the games on Saturday, May 18, 2019. The awards will be presented at half-time on the championship field.
