As the NFHS Rules 2-5 now recommend three officials per game. A number of schools have requested three officials for home games this season and all 2014 GHSA playoff games will use three officials. Therefore, it is imperative that GLOA members be trained on how to officiate using three man mechanics. This program is the first step in having a standardized three-man training program. Going forward we will look at expanding three-man training opportunities outside of the regular season.

To be considered for this program, the applicant must be a member of GLOA in good standing and the official is either Certified or Approved.
Application Process
Submit the GLOA Three Man Request Form to [email protected]by February 7, 2014. One of the assigners will then add any notes they have and forward to the three-man committee and the President.
Selection Process
The President will create a committee of 3 members (comprised of a mix of Assigner and Board Member and an at-large member that will review all submitted applications. This committee will select a maximum of ten (10) applicants to participant in the training program for the upcoming season based on GLOA’s need and the number of scrimmages.
Training
The training will consist of a combination of Mechanics Study and On-Field Training.
The mechanics study will be self-paced; this should be completed prior to the first on-field training. The Presentation as well as a short primer will be available this Wednesday on the GLOA website on the presentations page.
Will consist of officiating 3 games using three-man mechanics:
- One scrimmage game (in February), no game fees are paid for scrimmage.
- A regular season game the following month, no game fee will be paid. Travel mileage will be paid.
- One regular season game, the month prior to the playoffs, the official will be paid a full game fee and mileage.
Approval
- Observation of your the regular season three man game confirms you are ready for three-man assignments.
- Assignor group reviews your coaching/official ratings in the arbiter.
- Three-man committee submits the results and confirm that each step is completed.
- President confirms and presents the committee’s results to the official and assigners.
Completion
In order to successfully complete this training program, the applicant must complete all phases of the training requirements.
